Motions agreed at the 2016 Annual Conference

The following motions were debated and agreed at CHE's Annual Conference, 21 May 2016. (No motions had been notified in advance this year.)

Emergency motion 1: Gayle Newland

This Conference supports the appeal against conviction and sentence of Gayle Newland, convicted of having 'sex by deception' with another woman with whom she had a six-month relationship and who apparently believed Gayle was a man. The sex was between consenting adults in private. CHE believes an 8-year sentence is disproportionate, especially when compared to much shorter sentences given to sexual offenders who use violence. CHE will support demonstrations outside the Appeal Court and look for other ways to campaign.

Emergency motion 2: CHE Archives

This Conference takes note of the Executive Committee's decision to deposit CHE archives from now on with the Bishopsgate Institute instead of the Hall-Carpenter Archives, and looks to the Executive Committee to keep under review the question of CHE's records already deposited with the Hall-Carpenter Archives.
